Many species of this genus, from bushes to trees contain the valuable oleoresin, which is extracted from incisions made in the base of the tree. It “exhibited moderate cytotoxic activity against four cancer cell lines,” (University of Bio Organics, Spain). For inflammation, it is applied directly to the site (3, p81; 8, p21). A decoction of the bark for baths is made in Venezuela for rheumatism (2, p224).
